Privacy policy

Effective August 18, 2026. This policy explains how Chinese Stroke Order (“we”, “us”, or the “Service”) handles information when you browse, create an account, practise, save learning data, or purchase Pro. Contact support@chinesestrokeorder.net with privacy questions or requests.

Information we collect

We may collect account information such as your name, email address, authentication identifiers, account creation time, and security/session records. Learning information may include saved characters and words, review state, practice history, worksheet or tool usage, HSK access checks, and daily usage counters. We also receive technical information needed to operate and secure the Service, such as IP address, browser and device information, request time, referring page, and error or security logs.

Local storage, cookies, and similar technology

Some learning progress may be stored in your browser using local storage. Essential cookies or similar identifiers are used for sign-in, session security, fraud prevention, and preferences. Clearing browser data may remove device-local progress. We do not use non-essential advertising cookies unless separately disclosed and, where required, consented to.

Payments

Checkout is hosted by Waffo. We do not store your full payment-card number or security code. Waffo and its payment partners process payment credentials and may send us transaction identifiers, selected plan, currency, amount, payment or subscription status, renewal and cancellation events, and limited payer information needed for fulfillment, fraud control, support, accounting, and legal compliance. How we use information

We use information to provide and personalize learning tools; authenticate users; sync eligible account data; apply Free and Pro limits; create, maintain, and stop subscriptions; fulfill one-time purchases; provide support; prevent abuse and fraud; diagnose errors; improve performance and accessibility; enforce our terms; and meet tax, accounting, security, and legal obligations.

How information is shared

We share information only as needed with infrastructure, authentication, database, security, analytics, communications, support, and payment providers acting for us; with professional advisers; during a merger, financing, acquisition, or asset sale subject to appropriate protections; or when required to comply with law, protect rights and safety, investigate abuse, or respond to valid legal process. We do not sell personal information for money.

Retention and deletion

We retain account and learning information while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for recovery, security, disputes, and legal compliance. Security and payment records may be kept longer for fraud prevention, tax, accounting, or chargeback obligations. Device-local data remains until you or your browser removes it. When data is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it where reasonably practicable.

Security and international processing

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, including hosted payment collection and access controls. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Providers may process information in countries other than yours; where required, we use legally recognized safeguards or another permitted transfer basis.

Your choices and rights

You may update certain account information, clear local browser data, stop a quarterly renewal from your account, or contact us to request access, correction, export, restriction, objection, or deletion. Rights vary by location and may be limited where retention is required by law, security, fraud prevention, or an unresolved transaction. We may verify identity before completing a request.

Children

The Service is not directed to children who cannot legally consent to data processing in their location. A parent, guardian, school, or teacher authorizing use for a learner is responsible for any required consent and supervision. Contact us if you believe a child provided personal information without appropriate permission.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the Service or law changes. Material updates will be posted here with a new effective date and, when appropriate, an additional notice. Email support@chinesestrokeorder.net for privacy requests.
